Nominations now open for The Essex Sports Awards 2010

The moment has come to get your nominations in for the county's best sportsmen and women, for the Essex Sports Awards 2010.

The event is organised by sportessex and supported by BBC Essex, who will broadcast coverage from the awards.

This year Glenn Speller will be sharing the hosting spot with BBC London's weather presenter, Wendy Hurrell.

Wendy told BBC Essex:"I'm thrilled to be involved in the awards as a sporty person myself."

The former ITV Anglia weather forecaster is a familiar face to viewers in south Essex on BBC London.

Wendy also presented the forecast for the Wimbledon Tennis Championships.

"I'm a keen hockey player, I've been playing for about five years in the East Anglian and London leagues," she said.

The ceremony will take place at
in Rayleigh on Wednesday, 10 November.

The awards recognises local talent from the community and aims to get people from across the county involved in sport.

BBC Essex broadcast the awards ceremony live last year and will be covering the event once again.

'Sports Personality of the Year 2009' winner, Landé Fourie told BBC Essex: "The award really does mean a lot and I have my students to thank."

Fourie from Colchester, a World Championship Karate Gold medallist and instructor, took time out from competing after a broken arm in 2005.

She came back to claim a gold medal in South Africa.

Winners are automatically put forward to the BBC East regional sports awards.
